Danaus plexippus aka Monarch Butterfly
I had forgotten how random the flight pattern of butterflies are. Sunday night I followed this fluttery friend for a good 20 minutes before she found a snack to her liking and settled in for a good 30 seconds. What a wonderful way to spend part of God's day.

How are the Butterflies doing this year where you live? I have not seen many around the farm this summer.

I haven't seen many butterflies around here this year either - although with our intense heat I haven't spent much time outside so maybe I've just missed them.

Hmmmm....I thought that they were gaining numbers again...apparently not. Sad.
Tami, this is a beautiful photo! We haven't had many until the last week or so. I read some research reports that it had something to do with the spring in Texas. The first generation never made it North because of the cold and rainy spring. Perhaps we are seeing the second or third generation now, finally! In any case, your fluttery friend is a welcome sight.
We have some hee not as many as usual. Lots of little ones though.
We are just seeing them this week, I have some Monarch catpillers on my milkweed eating away..finally..they are really late showing up this year. I will blog about their progress soon. Great Photo..you are very patient..I gave up..but will try again! :)
Great shot! We have lots and lots of small white butterflies around this year.
Sarah...we have hundreds of little orange and brown ones too!
Far side...please don't give up. I'm hoping to try again this weekend. Want a shot of one with wings open. From the top. Also going to hunt down some milkweed.
