Life in Pennsylvania sure is interesting.
Today for your viewing pleasure I'm presenting two photos. The first is a weeds. That's right folks....weeds.
And the second, well I'll let you see for yourself....
Poo! Or more correctly some type of animal scat. But we're gonna call it poo.
Now I'm sure that you want to know why in the world I took the time to take these pictures (and I'm sure more than a couple of you are wanting to know why I got so close to poo).
I'm test driving a new lens. How exciting, right! And I wanted to see what it could do and shoot stuff with the old and the new and compare. Especially sharpness which I thought was a problem on my old lens (and it is).
Fine your thinking....so go ahead and test drive (shoot)....but why poo (and for that matter...weeds)?
Well (and I can't believe that I'm going to admit this)......I'm genuinely interested in the poo. I didn't set out to be. But once I saw it I was curious as to whether it was Red Fox or Coyote scat. And it was as good a place as any to experiment how close I can get with the lens.
And the weeds. I was working on Depth of Field...and how sharp I could get the individual blades of grass to be. And seperating moving grass in the forground from the moving grass in the background. And yowser can the 70-200 2.8 focus fast. Like scary fast. Like I have to get a grip....fast! Needless to say....I can't wait for polo season to start. It's a whole need world with this lens.
The weeds....really it's some sort of grass....I'd like to know if it's native and what kind it is. Now that I took the picture and have been looking at it....it would be nice to have a name for it.
Oh and the poo.....I have no idea what kind of animal left it. I'm going to submit it to the poo picture place run by Cornell and find out. It's a free service. They keep the photo (they are more than welcome to it) and we dear bloggers get to find out what critter is living on the back 50!

Ha ha ha ha. I was so surious when I saw the title. Very original posting poo. LOL.
I think you have the DOF mastered.
What a great post. I almost wrote a blog about poo but changed my mind. Now I just might do it! Looks like this beastie ate something that was very hairy, or else grooms itself a lot. Let us know what you find out.
I would say it is a carnivore for sure.
Yes....it looks like it had a good meal of Rabbit!
Delightful to find that there's a place where you can get your photos of poo analysed. And your new lense is certainly picking out a good level of detail!
Well, I am no poo expert so I'll leave to the experts. =) The weed looks like broomsage, whose roots are great for poison ivy.
So, I am actually somewhat of a poo expert! I love looking at the scat around my house to see what's been lurking (blog joke!) Anyway, typically at my house, it's coyote or mountain lion. I keep hoping for a wolf visit, but haven't seen any yet. We have the ever present deer, elk and moose scat, but finding something different is fun!
I think that your poo is probably coyote, but I've been known to be wrong, so ask the real experts!!!
Love your blog, it makes me miss my beloved PA....

Must be a good lens because those are some good photos.
My dog just ran off with a frozen stick - man was it big!...
... It turned out to be poo!
I did like Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Laws character kept getting better looking and Robert Downeys just looked scruffy.
They let the ending up for a sequel and I do not recall another Guy Ritchey film I saw, guess I will have to google him.
Great looking weeds..and the poo...is good looking in a poo sort of way..a bit hairy..Way to go with your new lens:)
Your great camera and lens tell it all! This Ozarks farm chick was amazed the stuff your captured in the poo. I'd guess coyote myself, not at all an expert but we have a vast supply of wildlife here on the Ponderosa. Everything from big cats to bears and everything in between.
Ya'll have a terrifically blessed day!!!!
You are funny! I breathed in deeply at the weeds photo. Yes weeds! And then quickly exhaled when the poo came on. Hee hee! :) Thanks for sharing your, uh, turds with us. :) I have to say, though, for nature lovers, they can be quite interesting.
I love that first picture Tami. Wow!
The 70-200mm lens is kick butt. I'm soooo jealous! I have the 18-200 for my Nikon. Doesn't have that 2.8 aperture but I still love it for its range of view. Your photography has really changed and I love to see your pictures!
How much snow did you get in New Wilmington? Usually you get more and we get less. At this time (3PM) we still have not had one snow plowing, you could see how deep it was on my legs.
That's what coyote poo looks like here. Never thought to take a pic of it. And I still don't think I need to.
Fantastic pictures, I too have the 70-200 2.8 and I lov it dearly.
But a good lens still needs a good photographer, you take wonderful pictures!
:))
LOL - now I don't feel so silly about taking photos of antelope poo!
