Lucy Goosey

Please please please fly away....asap. You can not stay the winter on an irrigation pond, it's just not an option.  This goose has been here for three weeks. Alone. Not a good sign. Several flocks of Canadians have come and gone. Yet this one remains. Seemingly content.

I took care of a wild goose through 3 winters. It lived in a blocked in horse stall. Catching her at the start of winter was a major pain-in-the-arse. And it only happened on the first try one year. The last winter she spent in the barn was the worse goose chase of the 3. I ended up black and blue from my eye down to my jaw. I caught her and was headed to the barn when she let loose with her good wing and whack...caught me on the side of my face.

Taking care of wild Canadian for the winter...not so much fun. Having to catch a wild Canadian prior to taking care of her for winter. Calls for a stiff shot of vodka.

Pocket Knife

Do you carry a pocket knife? Well.  I lost my mine.  And if you carry one daily....then I'm sure your quite attached to yours.  So you can feel my pain right?  I live on a farm.  A good knife is absolutely essential.  Mine was a good one.  Held an edge like nobodies business.  Light weight stainless steal body.  About 2.5" folded.  Lockback.  Thumb flip.  And a really cool blade... part smooth edge/part serrated edge.  I've had it about 8 years.  And this is the sad part.... I can not remember what brand it was, or where I got it.  AAGGHH!

The beginning of the end was this spring when we were on a tree planting job.  I always carry an extra knife to jobs with me.  And I did this time.  But I already gave it to someone earlier in the day.  Well ... Mark (whom the tree job was for) asked me if he could borrow my knife.  So I said sure.  He opened it, used it, said "Wow this thing is really sharp."  I said "Yeah I like wicked little things."  He laughed...walked away and continued to use my knife.  About two hours later I was back at the farm went to the barn and reached into my pocket ... no knife.  Fart (said it, didn't do it).  Next day as soon as we got to the job I make a beeline to Mark "Good morning sunshine, where's my knife?"  And he handed it right over.  My hubby was shocked cause I won't let him use it and he says "You let him use your knife. Good thing you didn't lose that it's her favorite."  And then looks at me all suspicious like.  "HEHEHE Jealous cause I let another man use my knife huh?" I say.

Well....now a couple months later it's gone.  I'm certain I left it sitting on a bale of twine on the tailgate of the truck.  It must have bounced out when the truck got moved.  I looked and looked.  No luck.

Do you carry a knife?  What kind?  I'm gonna need to get a new one.  And I've looked and looked on the internet and can not find one that even looks similar.  I thought it was a Spyderco ... but it's doesn't look the same as any of seen.

Deanna Raybourn Book Giveaway

This is an odd little book.  Why is it odd you may be asking.  Well it just doesn't fit neatly into any one category.  At B&N it can be found in general fiction.  The back cover says historical thriller.  She won a RITA this year for the fist novel in the series 'Silent in the Grave' for Best Novel with Strong Romantic Elements.  It is historical...there is a romantic element - unrequited...and I wouldn't so much as call it a thriller as a mystery.

The jury is still out for me on the main character Julia (she is just not that interesting to me).  Brisbane I love.  The secondary main characters that are reoccurring are great.  I don't know...it's just....I like it.  I loved the first.  And I'm going to read the third, just because I have to know if Julia grows as a character and find out what Brisbane is getting up to.  This gets 3 stars.

And it can be yours.  All you need to do is leave a comment.  And tell me who your favorite hero in a novel is of all time.  On Monday I'll make a random pick.  And if you win you can read it and judge for yourself!  Cheers!

P.S. if you want to know a bit more about Deanna Raybourn you can click on her name and it will take you to her blog.  She is interesting.

Nephewage

The little nephewage takes jobs very seriously. And cuttin' wood is no exception. He has gone through at least a half dozen toy chainsaws & saws at this point. This is serious business to him. "Cuttin', Choppin', Splitten' and Stackin'" are well used word sets in his 3 yr old vocab.

He saw this stack of wood from the office.  And wanted to go up and stack a little.  Who am I to say no.  He knows what he's doin'.
Do a couple more buddy.....this is a family farm....child labor laws don't pertain.

You name it & it'll be there.  New stuff...old stuff...really old stuff.  Oh and I'm donating 'the bike'...

Pukey Puppy

There is nothing like coming home. Opening the door. And your senses being assailed with the utterly disgusting stench and sight of 3 day worth of kitchen garbage all over the floor.  Now how a dog with 2" front legs can get the kitchen garbage tipped over I'll never know.  Most likely she had a willing accomplice in Charlotte Pup-Pup.  But that is neither here nor there as Charlotte wasn't sick at all.  And Clarice....well she was outside pulling her very best pukey puppy faces.
Poor little Clarice-a-mo.  Lay your head down on a pine cone and take a nap.
