Panicum v. 'Heavy Metal'
So last year I designed a beautiful wall project. Last week I took some pictures of the job. These grass are blue in the summer. But the fall/early winter color is the best. By next year they should be all grown in. So it will just be a seamless wave dancing in the wind.
Ornamental grasses can add life and movement to a hardscape. Do you like ornamental grass in a landscape design?

Absolutely! It looks great adds height and texture and winter interest! I have some weird grass that I love, it works great all by itself! The Bluestems are wonderful too! Just have to give them a wide berth! One of these days you will be tired of my opinions! :)
I love them. I need to add them to my landscape!
Wow - what a fantastic picture. I love ornamental grass! And I love that wall too.
Love 'em. But mine look so pathetic. Maybe I needed to plant more - closer together? Any suggestions for a really hardy variety that even I can't kill?
I like!!!
I want to do something like that by my driveway, but haven't figured out the right grass to use yet since it's really dry.
Looks like you are living one of my dream jobs, I'm jealous.
I love grass. Purple fountain grass is the main attraction in the my front garden, I have to replant them every year though as we are in zone 4.
I love the movement grasses give to the garden, the slightest wind has them nodding and dipping all over the place.
Thanks for stopping at my site! Come back anytime.
Slug A Bed...you could try Panicum virgatum 'Rotstrahlbusch' hardy to zone 3 and I've read reports to zone 2 as well.
The best of the reds for Panicum...but still some green. But a pretty shape and the Panicum are hardy and fill in quick.
Neas...what zone are you?
Carrielt....any of the Panicum family is 'praire tolerent' so okay for not so great soil and not so great water frequency.
Far Side....I will never get tired of your opinions....and I will always bend knee to horticulturist blathering. ;) TeeHeeHee
Thanks for the advice!!!
My sister inlaw spent a lot of money on pampas grass, but it died right away. The lake we go to there is pampas grass everywhere. So she dug some up and it is beautiful! I think I might try some of that.
